Hungry Horse Dam is 564 feet high and has a variable-thickness concrete arch structure. The spillway is the highest morning-glory structure in the world. Hungry Horse Dam and Powerplant are located approximately 9 miles southeast of Columbia Falls, Montana and are on the South Fork of the Flathead River. The principal power benefit from the powerplant arises from its ability to store water through the spring flood season for later release. Hungry Horse Dam was constructed from 1948 to 1953.
